Get on board! The TRAIN is Rolling Down the Track!
TRAIN = Taking Realtime Awareness and Innovation Nationwide. In September Ed Varallo invited our reporters to join a TRAIN group he would lead. Nine hardworking reporters responded, and Ed's group meets every few weeks at our office. In each hour-and-a-half meeting, members take turns describing their efforts and their successes, no matter how small, in implementing a new realtime technique. Then more techniques are demonstrated and discussed. And when the group next meets, there'll be more excited tales of newfound RT expertise. Little successes breed more successes, and confidence. Ed calls it a RT support group, and it's working!

StenOps Team at Guantanamo Bay Presents NCRA Seminar
At the annual NCRA conference in Philadelphia in August, Nancy Varallo described the detailed process to assemble and qualify an elite team of court reporters to provide stenographic services at GTMO: testing, obtaining top secret clearances, selecting technology and equipment, arranging travel and housing, and wading through seemingly endless Government documentation. The affectionately called StenOps team shared stories of their work reporting the hearings of those accused in the USS Cole bombing and the terrorism of 9/11 that changed the world.
